The Davie County Schools Board of Education meeting on June 3, 2025, featured a special recognition segment honoring outstanding student-athletes from Davie High School. The meeting highlighted the achievements of several individuals who excelled in their respective sports during the past school year.
The first athlete recognized was Jaden Sink, a member of the women's soccer team, coached by Corbin Kopetsky. Jaden led her team to an impressive overall record of 11 wins, 6 losses, and 3 ties. As the primary center back, she played a crucial role in the team's defense over the last four years and was named the Central Piedmont Conference (CPC) Defensive Player of the Year. Jaden will continue her academic and athletic career at Miami of Ohio in the fall.
Next, the board acknowledged Coy James from the baseball team, coached by Joey Anderson. Although Coy was unable to attend the meeting, his remarkable performance was noted. He led the team in numerous statistical categories, including batting average, home runs, and stolen bases, and was voted the CPC Player of the Year. Coy has also been named the North Carolina Gatorade Player of the Year and the 4A State Player of the Year in baseball. He plans to attend the University of Mississippi, pending the outcome of the Major League Baseball draft in July.
Jack Beshoda, a member of the men's lacrosse team, was also recognized. Under the guidance of head coach Ross Niesler, Jack led his team to a record of 18 wins and 3 losses, the best in school history. He was honored as the CPC Offensive Player of the Year for his outstanding contributions.
The meeting continued with the recognition of AJ Sweet from the track team, coached by Rob Braysbeck. AJ, who competes in pole vaulting, earned all-conference honors and finished as the state runner-up with a vault of 15 feet at the state tournament.
Lastly, Cooper Williams, also from the track team, was celebrated for his achievements in shot put and discus. Cooper earned all-conference honors and secured the state title in shot put with a throw of 58 feet, 11 and 3/4 inches, marking his third state title while at Davie High. He will attend the University of North Carolina in the fall to further his academic and athletic pursuits.
The meeting concluded with congratulations extended to all recognized students and staff for their exceptional accomplishments throughout the school year.
