The Harford County Council celebrated a significant milestone at their June 3, 2025 meeting, honoring the United Way of Central Maryland on its 100th anniversary. The council presented a proclamation recognizing the organization's century-long commitment to serving communities in need, particularly in Harford County.
Angela, a prominent ambassador for United Way, was acknowledged for her dedication and hard work. The proclamation highlighted United Way's evolution from a fundraising entity to a data-driven service provider, responding to various crises over the years, including natural disasters and economic hardships.
In 2024 alone, United Way's Project Connect initiative provided essential services to nearly 500 residents, including free laptops, haircuts, dental and eye exams, and fresh produce. The organization also played a crucial role in preventing homelessness for over 50 individuals through targeted eviction prevention programs and distributed more than $100,000 in grants to local organizations and entrepreneurs.
As the council marked this centennial milestone, they reaffirmed their support for United Way's mission to build thriving communities for the next 100 years. The meeting concluded with expressions of gratitude from council members and a call for continued collaboration to strengthen lives in Harford County.
