The Fort Pierce Utilities Authority (FPUA) is making significant progress on its ongoing infrastructure project, which involves the installation of a large 30-inch pipe across Ogichoke Road. The horizontal drilling crew mobilized ahead of schedule and has already begun work between the Walgreens and Wawa gas station driveways. This project is crucial for enhancing the utility services in the area.
As of now, the crew has successfully installed 2,100 linear feet of the 30-inch PVC pipe, with 1,450 feet remaining to connect to the newly installed high-density polyethylene (HDPE) pipe. The project manager, Shane Ostrander, highlighted the challenges that come with such a large-scale operation, including the recent discovery of an undocumented underground utility that required immediate attention. Thanks to quick adjustments by the team, the project remains on track.
The installation process is labor-intensive and requires specialized equipment, including large drilling rigs and pipe fusion machines. Dewatering efforts are also necessary due to the depth of the force main. Safety measures are in place, with crews utilizing entrance boxes to protect against potential cave-ins.
Visual documentation of the project shows the active work being done, including the installation of the 30-inch PVC pipe, which is one of the largest pipes ever installed in the FPUA system. Community members are encouraged to observe the progress in person, as the project promises to enhance utility services for residents.
As the project continues, FPUA remains committed to addressing any challenges that arise, ensuring that the infrastructure improvements benefit the Fort Pierce community in the long run.
