On January 31, 2025, Carey faced a critical situation when a patient experiencing shortness of breath rapidly deteriorated into cardiac arrest. His calm demeanor and quick decision-making were pivotal in providing the necessary aid, ultimately leading to the patient's full recovery after 13 days in the hospital without complications.

Chief Holcomb read a heartfelt letter from DeSoto Fire Chief Bridal Southern, who commended Carey for exemplifying the highest standards of service and dedication.
