Grove City celebrated creativity and safety at its recent City Council meeting, highlighting the achievements of local students during Building Safety Month. The building division partnered with the Parks and Recreation after-school program to engage students in educational events focused on the importance of building safety.
Mr. Boso from the building department shared that students participated in a contest to construct Lehi houses, showcasing their understanding of safety features. Notably, some projects included home safety kits, emphasizing the critical nature of preparedness. "It gives me goosebumps even talking about it now," Boso remarked, reflecting on the students' impressive work and comprehension of safety essentials.
The event also recognized winners from a coloring contest, with 200 elementary students from various local schools participating. Mayor Ike Sage presented awards to the young creators, celebrating their innovative designs and enthusiasm for safety.
In addition to the student presentations, Mayor Sage proclaimed the week as Golf Cart Safety Awareness Week, culminating in a golf cart rodeo at the high school. This initiative aims to promote responsible golf cart use, addressing the significant number of accidents that lead to emergency room visits nationwide.
The meeting underscored Grove City's commitment to fostering community engagement and safety awareness among its youth, setting a positive tone for future initiatives.
