In the heart of Schertz, Texas, city officials gathered for a strategic planning retreat, where discussions centered on vital upgrades and enhancements to public safety equipment. The meeting, held on February 7, 2025, highlighted the city’s commitment to ensuring that its police and fire departments are well-equipped to serve the community effectively.

The police department has made significant strides in modernizing its equipment. New body-worn cameras and a consistent firearm platform have been introduced, alongside the replacement of outdated tasers with more advanced models. Additionally, the department welcomed a new canine officer, Sharique, thanks to generous donations from the Police Alumni Association, which also provided a drone to enhance operational capabilities.

Meanwhile, the fire department is not lagging behind. A new ladder truck has been put into service, marking a crucial addition to the fleet. Many of the current handheld radios, purchased in 2013, are no longer within their service life, posing a risk to communication during critical situations. Officials noted that 98% of the radios are beyond repair, underscoring the urgency for a new radio system within the next two years.
