In a recent meeting of the School Board of Georgia, significant achievements in student competitions were highlighted, showcasing the academic excellence within the state's educational institutions. Notably, Salem High School was recognized as this year's Access Zone winner by the Georgia Council on Economic Education. This accolade grants the school's team, the Seminoles, and their teacher, Tayla Reid, an automatic entry into the national personal finance challenge scheduled for June in Atlanta.
The personal finance challenge allows high school students to demonstrate their financial literacy through an online competition. Participants are presented with real-world scenarios where they must identify problems and propose solutions using their knowledge of economics and personal finance. The students from Salem High School, including team members Rahim Yuba, Knowledge Robinson, Kamari King, and Mekki Johnson, received certificates for their accomplishments, with a photo opportunity arranged to celebrate their success.

The fairs are designed to enhance research skills and encourage informed decision-making, skills that are vital for students' future endeavors. Ten students advanced from district competitions to regional fairs, with four progressing to the state level. One student notably received the state best in discipline award for sociology psychology.
Recognition was given to Peaks Chapel Elementary School for their outstanding performance in the social studies fair, where they secured multiple awards, including first place in both the district and East Metro Region fairs. Lorraine Elementary School also celebrated its students' achievements, with several participants earning top honors and advancing to state competitions.
