The Vermont Legislature celebrated the achievements of Mount Mansfield Union High School (MMU) athletes during a recent House session, recognizing their outstanding performances in Nordic skiing, dance, and golf.

The Cougars' boys Nordic ski team clinched the Division 1 championship, showcasing their dominance at the 2025 Nordic Championships held at Craftsbury Outdoor Center and Prospect Mountain Nordic Ski Center. The team outperformed Champlain Valley Union High School with a score of 67 to 190, marking a significant victory. Individual highlights included a second-place finish in the 5K race and a strong relay performance, solidifying their championship status.

Similarly, the girls Nordic ski team also triumphed, finishing first in both freestyle and classic events. They secured a commanding victory over the St. Johnsbury Hilltoppers, with a final score of 44 to 120. The team’s success was attributed to their teamwork and individual talent, with several athletes finishing in the top ranks during the competitions.

In addition to skiing, the Cougars' dance program celebrated its tenth consecutive state championship in hip hop, outperforming South Burlington with a narrow margin. The team’s dedication and skill were evident as they excelled in their performances, further establishing their legacy in Vermont high school dance.

Lastly, the assembly recognized Namo Siebert, a remarkable athlete who has won the individual girls golf championship for four consecutive years. Her consistent performance and dedication to the sport have made her a standout competitor in Vermont.

The session concluded with a moment of reflection as a member from Jericho addressed a recent accident involving an MMU senior, urging the community to send healing thoughts to the affected family. The recognition of these athletes not only highlights their individual and team accomplishments but also fosters a sense of community pride and support during challenging times.
