Governor Spencer J. Cox announced the appointment of Judge Ryan Evershed to the Second District Juvenile Court during the 12th Extraordinary Session of the Utah Senate on November 20, 2024. This decision follows a favorable recommendation from the Senate Judicial Confirmation Committee, which met on November 14.

Judge Evershed, who has served as a juvenile court judge for the past decade in the Eighth District, brings extensive experience to his new role. He was appointed to the Eighth District by former Governor Gary Herbert in 2013 and has a background in child welfare law, having represented the Department of Child and Family Services in cases of abuse and neglect. His legal career also includes founding his own practice focused on juvenile, family, and criminal law.

Senator Todd Wyler, chair of the confirmation committee, highlighted Evershed's qualifications and community ties, noting that the judge's move to the Second District is motivated by family considerations, including his mother's health and his children's education. The Senate voted unanimously, with 23 votes in favor and none against, to confirm Evershed's appointment.

Following the vote, Judge Evershed was welcomed to address the Senate, marking a significant transition in Utah's juvenile court system.
