During the recent meeting of the Caroline County Board of License Commissioners, the board reviewed a request from Atkins Arboretum for a one-day liquor license to host four events throughout the year. Located at 12610 Evelyn Road in Ridgely, Atkins has applied for this license for the past four years, although this is the first year under the new management of Abby.

The events scheduled include the Forest Music on June 12, the Summer Solstice Social on June 20, a Beer Garden on September 27, and Plein Air Atkins on November 1. Each event will feature a cash bar serving beer and wine, with music provided by local artists. The board noted that alcohol awareness certificates have been submitted, and a site plan detailing where alcohol will be served has been provided.

The Forest Music event will showcase musicians from the Chestertown National Music Festival, with alcohol sales occurring near the visitor center from 1 PM to 4 PM. The Summer Solstice Social will be an exclusive gathering for members of Atkins, while the Beer Garden will be located at the pavilion, featuring performances by local bands. The Plein Air Atkins event will cater to artists, offering refreshments including champagne and mimosas from 9 AM to 1 PM.

The board expressed confidence in Atkins' ability to manage alcohol service, noting that past events have not encountered any issues. The upcoming events are expected to foster community engagement and provide enjoyable experiences for attendees. The board will issue the necessary licenses a month prior to each event, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
