The City of Moorhead is making significant strides in its ambitious City Hall renovation project, which aims to modernize the facility and enhance community spaces. During the recent City Council meeting on May 27, 2025, officials provided updates on the progress and financial aspects of the project, which is estimated to cost around $26.4 million.
The renovation plan includes a new civic plaza and a community room, as well as updated city council chambers. The council has already approved a declaration of official intent for the project, allowing for bonding capabilities of up to $28 million. This financial framework is crucial as it sets the stage for the city to move forward with construction.

They reported that the project is currently about 10% under budget, with the latest guaranteed maximum price amendment totaling $2,316,240. This figure reflects the costs associated with the substructure and superstructure of the new addition, including concrete foundations and steel columns. Looking ahead, the city plans to begin excavation for the new foundations in early June. The design team is finalizing the interior plans, which will be put out for bid later this summer. A subsequent guaranteed maximum price amendment is expected to be presented to the council in August, which will finalize the construction contracts.
This renovation project not only aims to improve the functionality of city operations but also seeks to create a welcoming space for community gatherings and events. As the project progresses, it reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing public facilities and fostering community engagement.
