Midland schools welcome new principals Chelsea, Katie, and Kevin to leadership roles

In a spirited meeting on May 19, 2025, the Midland Public Schools Board of Education welcomed new leadership and celebrated outstanding staff contributions, highlighting the district's commitment to community and educational excellence.

Chelsea Houghton, the newly appointed principal of Central Park Elementary, expressed her gratitude and excitement for the role. Having been part of the Central Park community since its inception, Houghton emphasized her dedication to fostering strong partnerships with families and improving student reading scores. "I believe in the spirit and strength of Central Park," she stated, outlining her vision for the school’s future and her commitment to involving families in their children's education.

Katie Rinke, the new principal of Seabert Elementary, also shared her enthusiasm for joining the Midland community. With 14 years of experience in education, Rinke looks forward to continuing the school's traditions and engaging with students and families. "I've heard wonderful things about the community and culture," she remarked, eager to contribute to the school’s success.

Kevin Schwedler, who comes from Frankenmuth High School, expressed his excitement about returning to Midland County. He highlighted the district's reputation for academic and athletic excellence, stating his goal to provide the best experience for student-athletes.

The meeting also recognized two exceptional staff members as "shining stars." Katie Hilliard, a family intervention specialist at Central Park Elementary, was praised for her dedication and ability to connect with students and families. Similarly, Katie Fitchitt, a special education paraprofessional at Jefferson Middle School, was celebrated for her positive impact on students and her supportive role in the classroom.
