Excitement is building in Wilkes-Barre as city officials report significant progress on community improvement projects, particularly at Hubert Park. During the recent City Council meeting, a council member highlighted ongoing paving and sidewalk installations, expressing enthusiasm for the upcoming enhancements. “Everything's gonna look fantastic,” they stated, emphasizing the positive transformation expected in the area.
The council member also mentioned the anticipated completion of a new pickleball court, with construction expected to wrap up by June. “I saw everything that was removed, and it looks like they're getting ready,” they noted, indicating that the project is on track.
In addition to recreational upgrades, the council discussed the city’s efforts to address code violations related to overgrown grass and weeds. A dedicated team from the Department of Public Works (DPW) and code enforcement has been actively sending out notices to residents, ensuring compliance with city regulations. “They do a great job,” the council member praised, acknowledging the challenges posed by recent heavy rainfall that has hindered residents' ability to maintain their lawns.
The meeting also recognized the hard work of emergency medical services (EMS) personnel, with every firefighter in the city required to hold EMT certification. This commitment ensures that the community is well-prepared to respond to emergencies.
As these projects and initiatives progress, city officials remain committed to enhancing the quality of life for Wilkes-Barre residents, with a strong focus on teamwork and community engagement.
