Las Vegas Council approves Good Cluck West LLC restaurant development on MLK Boulevard

The Las Vegas City Council meeting on May 21, 2025, focused on several key agenda items, including a significant development proposal and discussions on traffic management.

One of the main topics was the approval of a site development plan for a new restaurant and office building at the southeast corner of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cary Avenue. The proposed project, submitted by Good Cluck West LLC, includes a 2,380 square foot restaurant with a drive-through and a 3,067 square foot office building on a 1.69-acre site. The Planning Commission had previously voted unanimously in favor of the project, and city staff also recommended approval, citing its compatibility with the surrounding area and adherence to development standards, aside from a minor waiver for landscape buffer requirements.

During the public hearing, community member William McCurdy expressed support for the project, highlighting the historical significance of the site, which previously housed restaurants in the 1960s. He emphasized the need for economic development in the historic West Las Vegas area.

However, the council raised concerns regarding traffic access, particularly the entrance from Miller Avenue. Some members suggested that closing this entrance could prevent increased traffic on nearby residential streets. City traffic engineers noted that while the entrance was not required for fire access, its removal could help manage traffic flow better. Despite these discussions, the applicant was not willing to agree to the condition of closing the Miller entrance at this time.

The meeting concluded with a decision to take a brief recess before continuing discussions on the agenda. The council's deliberations reflect ongoing efforts to balance development with community needs and traffic management in Las Vegas.
