During the recent Burnsville City Council meeting, Mayor Elizabeth Kautz proclaimed May 18 through May 24, 2025, as Military Appreciation Week, highlighting the commitment of local students who have chosen to serve in the military. This initiative, supported by the Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization, aims to honor and recognize the dedication of young individuals entering military careers.
The Mayor emphasized the importance of acknowledging these students for their contributions to the community and the nation, urging residents to express their gratitude for their service. The proclamation reflects a longstanding partnership between the Burnsville and Savage communities and the Burnsville Beyond the Yellow Ribbon organization, which has been recognizing students for their military commitments since 2016.
Mike Huddleston, a volunteer coordinator for the organization, addressed the council, noting that they have recognized over 20 students in total, with nine students present at the meeting. He expressed appreciation for the students' willingness to serve, reinforcing the community's support for military service members and their families.
This recognition not only honors the students but also strengthens community ties and fosters a culture of appreciation for those who serve in the armed forces. As Military Appreciation Week approaches, residents are encouraged to participate in honoring these young individuals and reflecting on the values of freedom and service they represent.
