ATL Airport announces new division for innovation and strategy management under Jan Lennon

Atlanta's City Council has taken significant steps to enhance the operational efficiency and economic impact of Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) during the FY2026 budget briefings held on May 21, 2025. A key decision made was the establishment of a new division focused on airport innovation and strategy management, aimed at fostering a culture of innovation and improving strategic planning across the airport's complex operations.

Jan Lennon will lead this new division as the executive deputy general manager, overseeing airport operations and ensuring collaboration with other divisions, including infrastructure planning and information technology. This restructuring is part of a broader effort to streamline operations within the airport, which serves as a critical economic engine for the region, supporting approximately 448,000 jobs and generating a staggering $69 billion in direct and indirect economic impact.

The airport continues to hold its title as the busiest in the world, accommodating over 8 million passengers in 2024 and receiving accolades for customer satisfaction from Airport Council International North America. Despite these achievements, officials acknowledged the need for ongoing improvements, particularly in reducing the airport's vacancy rate, which has seen a significant drop of 30% over the past year.

Additionally, the airport has expanded its reach by signing sister airport agreements with Namibia and South Africa, paving the way for enhanced air service development. The ongoing ATL Next capital plan, now in its ninth year, is also set to further upgrade the airport's facilities, utilizing innovative construction methods to improve capacity and customer experience.
