A passionate Lorain County resident shared her transformative experience with local transit services during the Lorain County Transit Round Table meeting on May 24, 2025. Laura Walker, a longtime transit rider, expressed her gratitude for the newfound independence she has gained through the service, which has allowed her to attend doctor appointments and even enjoy lunch outings without relying on family or friends.
Walker, who has been using the transit system since 1988, highlighted the importance of accessibility and safety in transportation. She emphasized the need for expansion of service areas, particularly to locations like fitness centers and swimming pools, to enhance the freedom she has recently discovered. "You guys give me a taste of it. I'm not stopping," she declared, underscoring her desire for greater mobility.
Additionally, Walker raised concerns about the safety of transfer points, urging officials to ensure these locations are secure and preferably indoors. "Make them someplace that are safe, preferably indoors, and usable," she insisted, reflecting the need for improvements in the transit infrastructure.
Her heartfelt testimony resonated with attendees, spotlighting the critical role of public transportation in fostering independence and community engagement for residents. As discussions continue, the focus remains on enhancing transit services to better meet the needs of Lorain County citizens.
