Kenmore Heritage Society honors David Baker and recognizes young leaders at annual awards

The City of Kenmore held its Special and Regular City Council Meeting on May 19, 2025, where several key topics were discussed, including community awards, public comments, and library services.

The meeting commenced with a celebration of the McMaster Award winners, recognizing individuals who have made significant contributions to the Kenmore community. Morella Alejandro, president of the Kenmore Heritage Society, highlighted the importance of the awards, which have been presented since 2002. This year’s McMaster Award was given to David Baker, a long-serving public servant who has played a pivotal role in enhancing the community through various initiatives, including the establishment of a senior center and securing substantial grant funding for city projects.

The Emerging Leader Award was presented to Emma Choi, a dedicated senior at Inglemore High School, who was unable to attend due to her busy schedule. The Making a Difference in Business Award went to Jason Parker, owner of Copper Works Distillery Company, recognized for his active involvement in local business initiatives and community events.

Following the awards, the council opened the floor for public comments. However, no residents signed up to speak, leading to a swift transition to the consent agenda, which was approved unanimously.

The meeting then featured presentations from the King County Library System. Librarians Katie Boyce, Ben Ressler, and Alice Darden provided an overview of library services and usage statistics, noting a significant increase in patron visits and program participation over the past year. They highlighted various resources available to residents, including access to online databases, streaming services, and community programs aimed at fostering literacy and engagement among all age groups.

The council members expressed appreciation for the library's contributions to the community, with several noting the value of the resources offered, such as language learning tools and community events. The meeting concluded with a positive acknowledgment of the library's role in enhancing community life in Kenmore.
