Flanagan High School's color guard is basking in the spotlight after a remarkable achievement at the Winter Guard International (WGI) Color Guard World Championships. The Pembroke Pines City Commission celebrated the team's impressive fifth-place finish during their recent meeting, highlighting the dedication and talent of the young performers.

Mayor Angelo Castillo presented a proclamation recognizing the Flanagan High School World Guard for their outstanding performance, which culminated in a score of 91.05 at the prestigious event held in Dayton, Ohio. This achievement marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time in eight years that the team has reached the top five among over 500 participating schools nationwide.

Under the guidance of director Nicholas Rodriguez, the color guard has consistently showcased excellence throughout the 2025 season, securing first place at both the WGI regionals in Tampa and Orlando, as well as being crowned champions of the South Florida Winter Guard Association. The mayor expressed pride in the team's accomplishments, emphasizing the hard work and commitment of each member and their supporters.

The celebration included heartfelt congratulations from the mayor and city officials, who encouraged the young performers to continue striving for greatness.
