School District implements I Ready diagnostic platform to enhance personalized learning

Cary CCSD 26 is set to enhance its educational approach with the introduction of a new personalized learning platform, I Ready, which will replace several existing math and reading programs. During the Committee of the Whole meeting on May 19, 2025, district officials discussed the transition aimed at streamlining assessments and improving student engagement.

The district currently spends approximately $121,000 annually on various platforms, including Math Season and Reading Eggs. With the adoption of I Ready, this cost is projected to decrease to around $92,330, primarily due to a one-time professional development fee covered by grant funding. This shift is expected to not only reduce expenses but also consolidate resources into a single, more effective platform.

I Ready will provide diagnostic assessments three times a year, allowing for more accurate tracking of student progress. Unlike previous assessments, which were administered frequently, the new system will focus on individualized growth trajectories, enabling teachers to tailor instruction based on each student's unique needs. This approach aims to foster a more engaging learning environment, as students will not be overwhelmed by excessive screen time.

The platform also includes multilingual support, ensuring that non-English speaking students can access resources in their native languages. This feature is particularly beneficial for families from diverse backgrounds, as it enhances communication regarding student performance and progress.

The district emphasized the importance of balancing screen time with traditional learning methods. Officials noted that students should not spend excessive time on the platform, advocating for a maximum of 30 minutes per week to prevent burnout and maintain engagement.

As Cary CCSD 26 prepares for this transition, the focus remains on creating a supportive and effective learning environment that prioritizes student growth and success. The implementation of I Ready is anticipated to not only streamline educational resources but also empower students to take ownership of their learning journeys.
