County reports 398 criminal records expunged at recent clinic for inmates

During the recent Public Safety Committee meeting in Rutherford County, significant strides were reported in community safety and rehabilitation efforts. Inmates have collectively picked up an impressive 13,950 pounds of trash throughout the county, resulting in a cost savings of $63,168 for local taxpayers.

Another highlight was the recent expungement clinic, which saw 42 participants successfully have 398 records cleared. This initiative is crucial for helping individuals with felony records reintegrate into society, offering them a fresh start and reducing barriers to employment and housing. The process of expungement typically takes about four to six weeks after the clinic, as legal students from Belmont University assist in compiling and submitting the necessary documentation to the courts.
