Mansfield kicks off 250th celebration with speaker series and grand parade

Under the warm glow of the town hall lights, excitement buzzed through the air as the Select Board of Mansfield unveiled a series of events to celebrate the town's 250th anniversary. Mark your calendars for March 29 at 6 PM, when the first speaker in the "Untold Stories of Mansfield" series will take the stage at the Congregational Church. Robert McDonald, a beloved figure in the community with over 30 years of service as a teacher, coach, and mentor at Mansfield High School, will share captivating tales from the town's past and introduce some of its most notable residents. This event promises to be a highlight for anyone interested in the local history.

As the celebration continues, the library will host genealogy workshops starting April 12, led by Judith Allen Shea, a genealogist and president of the Afro American Genealogy Society of New England. The festivities will reach a crescendo with the grand parade on May 17 at 11 AM, featuring vibrant floats and dazzling performances that are sure to delight attendees of all ages.

The Incorporation Day weekend, from August 22 to August 24, will further enrich the celebration with a three-day extravaganza. Kicking off with a downtown spirit crawl and a special movie premiere showcasing the historic 150th parade from 1925, the weekend will also feature games, food, live music, and an exciting paddle boat launch at Fulton Pond Park.
