The San Francisco Public Works presented a significant contract award during a recent government meeting, focusing on pavement renovation and sewer replacement across various city locations. Project Manager Edmund Lee outlined the details of the contract, which amounts to $6,718,865.40 and spans a duration of 786 calendar days, with Ronan Construction selected as the contractor.
The project aims to enhance the condition of approximately 45 blocks and 32 intersections in neighborhoods including Forest Knolls, Forest Hill Extension, Parnassus, Ashbury Heights, and Corona Heights. Additionally, the project will involve the construction of 50 curb ramps and sewer rehabilitation work in collaboration with the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC).
Lee emphasized the importance of geographic equity in the distribution of street resurfacing projects, which also considers factors such as pavement condition, street usage, and available funding. The project has been in the planning phase since early 2019, with design completion expected by late 2024. Construction is anticipated to commence towards the end of 2025, pending the commission's approval.
The contract was advertised on January 24, 2025, and received seven bids by February 26, with Ronan Construction submitting the lowest bid at approximately $6.7 million, which was 6% below the engineer's estimate. The contract monitoring division confirmed that Ronan Construction met all requirements and was the lowest responsive bidder.
This contract represents a crucial step in maintaining and improving San Francisco's street infrastructure, ensuring that the city's public works continue to meet the needs of its residents. The commission's approval will allow the project to move forward, contributing to the overall enhancement of the city's transportation network.
