The City of San Francisco is moving forward with a significant environmental review process for a proposed project, as outlined in a recent public meeting. The draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) indicates that the project, with appropriate mitigation measures, will result in less than significant impacts on various environmental factors, including cultural resources, air quality, and biological resources.
During the meeting, city officials discussed three alternatives to the proposed project, including a "no project" alternative and a "reduced development" option. The no project alternative would not require any mitigation and would effectively reduce significant operational air quality impacts to less than significant levels. The reduced development alternative aims to eliminate certain components of the project, such as the boarding area H and the international terminal building expansion, to further mitigate air quality concerns.
The public hearing was opened for community members to voice their opinions on the draft EIR. Comments from the public will be transcribed and addressed in a forthcoming response document, which is expected to be published in the fall of 2025. This document will also include any necessary revisions to the draft EIR based on the feedback received.
Residents wishing to submit written comments can do so until June 2, 2025, to the designated EIR coordinator. Following the public comment period, the commission will hold a hearing to certify the EIR, marking a crucial step in the project’s development process. This initiative reflects the city's commitment to balancing development with environmental stewardship, ensuring that community concerns are heard and addressed.
