Tracy McLean proposes new Sustainability Advisory Board to enhance community engagement

Brighton City Council is set to enhance its sustainability efforts with the introduction of a new Sustainability Advisory Board, as outlined by Sustainability Coordinator Tracy McLean during the council meeting on May 6, 2025. This initiative aims to engage the community more effectively and support the city's growing sustainability projects.

In her presentation, McLean highlighted the achievements of the sustainability division in 2024, including the adoption of the city's first sustainability plan, which will serve as a roadmap for sustainability initiatives over the next five years. The division also conducted its inaugural community-wide sustainability survey to gather feedback on local priorities, and received recognition for its efforts in clean transportation and energy efficiency.

Looking ahead to 2025, the sustainability division plans to collaborate with Xcel Energy on a community-wide energy action plan and participate in the 2025 LEHI for Cities cohort, which will help the city achieve a silver LEED designation. Additionally, the division will continue to host educational events, including a recent regional Earth Day celebration.

The proposed Sustainability Advisory Board will play a crucial role in this expanding agenda. It will consist of community members who will study, review, and make recommendations on sustainability programs and initiatives.
