Utah Department of Transportation unveils major I-15 reconstruction and expansion plan

Utah's Executive Appropriations Committee meeting on May 20, 2025, unveiled significant infrastructure developments aimed at enhancing transportation across the state. A key highlight was the reconstruction of Interstate 15 (I-15) from Salt Lake City to Farmington, which will introduce five general-purpose lanes and an express lane, along with two new interchanges. These interchanges will improve access to the industrial area and facilitate truck movement, alleviating congestion in residential neighborhoods.

The committee emphasized community engagement throughout the planning process, addressing initial concerns about potential home displacements in the Rose Park area. Officials confirmed that the project will proceed without affecting any homes, incorporating features that enhance connectivity for pedestrians and cyclists, thereby fostering community integration.

Additional projects discussed included the expansion of I-15 in Box Elder County, which will add a lane in each direction and replace bridges at SR 13. In Cache Valley, the ongoing SR 30 project will also add lanes and improve pedestrian pathways, with completion expected by spring 2026.

The meeting also provided updates on several ongoing projects along Bangerter Highway, with interchanges set to open throughout the year. Notably, the 4700 South interchange will be operational by July, followed by others later in the year.

Looking ahead, the Mountain View Corridor project is set to begin construction in 2027, with plans for a freeway section that will connect Utah County to Salt Lake County. The committee outlined a robust investment of approximately $2 billion for projects in Northwest Utah County, highlighting the importance of these developments for regional connectivity and economic growth.
