Friends of the Library celebrate 50 years of community impact and fundraising

She emphasized the establishment of small free libraries throughout the county, which allow residents to take, read, and share books, particularly benefiting areas affected by economic hardships. The Friends of the Library also engage the community through events like wooly worm races at the farmers market, which have been well-received by families.

Karen announced that the Friends of the Library are celebrating their fiftieth anniversary this month, with an annual business meeting scheduled for May 28. She highlighted the dedication of the organization's members, who contribute between 1,000 and 1,500 volunteer hours annually, providing significant savings to the county in terms of salaries and benefits.

The meeting concluded with a proclamation recognizing the Friends of the Library for their valuable service and commitment to enhancing community engagement through literacy and cultural activities.
