During a recent meeting of the Marion County Board of County Commissioners, discussions centered on improving traffic safety at the intersection of 30 Second Avenue and Seventh Avenue. A significant concern was raised regarding the high number of angle and left turn crashes at this intersection, which have been linked to the absence of a traffic signal. Alarmingly, one of these incidents resulted in a fatality last year involving an elderly driver.
To address these safety issues, the board proposed the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection. This change is expected to enhance the level of service for drivers, improving traffic flow from a level C during the morning peak hours to a level B in the evening. The improvement plan also includes several turn lane enhancements, such as adding a westbound left turn lane, extending the eastbound left turn lane, and installing a new southbound left turn lane.
These proposed changes aim to reduce accidents and improve overall safety for residents and commuters in the area. The board's commitment to addressing these traffic concerns reflects a proactive approach to community safety and infrastructure improvement. As discussions continue, the community will be watching closely for updates on the implementation of these critical safety measures.
