Cochise County celebrates Buena High School graduation with community support and traffic plans

The Cochise County community is gearing up for a significant milestone as Buena High School prepares for its graduation ceremony on May 22. Public Information Officer Valerie Weller shared key details during a recent meeting, highlighting the excitement surrounding the event and the logistical challenges it presents.

This year, approximately 420 seniors will graduate, drawing in their families and friends, which is expected to create substantial traffic around the school. To manage this, Weller announced that Charleston Road will be closed from Colombo to Mohsen on graduation day, allowing access only to residents and those with parking passes. This closure aims to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow during the busy event.

To further alleviate congestion, a free shuttle service will be available for community members. The shuttle will pick up attendees from the northeast corner of the mall parking lot, near Dillard's and Applebee's, starting at 5 PM. This service will transport guests directly to the stadium entrance, making it easier for families to attend the ceremony without the hassle of parking.

In addition to the graduation ceremony, Weller emphasized the importance of Project Graduation, a longstanding tradition in Sierra Vista that provides a safe, all-night celebration for graduates. This event, which has been a community staple for over 40 years, will take place at Buena High School and will feature food, games, and prizes, ensuring a memorable experience for the graduates.

As the community rallies to support its students, the preparations for graduation reflect a collective commitment to celebrating educational achievements while prioritizing safety and accessibility for all attendees.
