Concord citizen demands action on community park amenities after years of delays

A passionate plea for community involvement and timely action echoed through the Recreation Commission meeting in Concord on April 23, 2025. Residents voiced their frustrations over delays in the development of community parks, particularly the long-awaited Jarell Park, which has seen little progress since its inception in 2018.

One resident, visibly upset, recounted her experiences of being sidelined in the planning process, stating, “I was told I have no say in this... This is the town where we fought for the revolution for democracy.” She emphasized the importance of public input, recalling how past community engagement transformed local spaces, contrasting it with the current lack of transparency and involvement in the park's development.

The resident highlighted that while $90,000 has been allocated for consultants to analyze park plans, basic amenities like picnic tables and benches remain uninstalled. “We have $70,000 left over,” she noted, questioning why these essential features were not prioritized. “This park makes a community... it’s what brings us together,” she asserted, urging the commission to act swiftly and creatively to enhance the park's offerings.

The meeting underscored a growing sentiment among residents that their voices are not being heard in local governance. As discussions continue, the community is left hoping for a renewed commitment to collaboration and timely action in making Jarell Park a reality.
