Boston City Council designates Old North Church as historic landmark

Councilor Claudia Zapata also spoke in favor of the designation, praising the church's architectural beauty and its evolution into a civic and educational hub through the organization Old North Illuminated. She reiterated the importance of honoring the past to inform future citizenship.

Following the discussions, the council moved to vote on the landmark designation. Councilor Durkin called for a roll call vote on docket number 1056, which resulted in unanimous support from the council members present, passing with 12 affirmative votes.

The meeting concluded with Councilor Flynn preparing to address another docket, indicating that the council's focus on historical preservation and community engagement would continue in future discussions. The designation of the Old North Church as a landmark marks a significant step in Boston's commitment to preserving its rich historical heritage.
