Assemblymember Solace championed the recognition of May as California Small Business Month during the Assembly Floor Session on May 15, 2025. With over 4 million small businesses employing more than 7 million people, Solace emphasized their critical role in California's economy, which ranks as the fourth largest in the world. He highlighted the resilience of these businesses, particularly in sectors like clean energy and digital commerce, and noted that 1.6 million are owned by women and minorities, showcasing California's commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Assemblymember Dixon echoed Solace's sentiments, stressing that small businesses are the largest job creators in the state. He pointed out the challenges they face, including overregulation and excessive litigation, which can drive them out of California. Dixon urged lawmakers to support small businesses by reducing burdensome regulations and avoiding tax increases that disproportionately affect them.
The resolution, ACR 76, received overwhelming support, with 67 co-authors joining in recognition of the vital contributions of small businesses to local economies and community vibrancy. Solace concluded by reaffirming the legislature's commitment to providing the necessary tools and support for small businesses to thrive.
In addition to ACR 76, the Assembly also adopted resolutions recognizing Drowning Awareness and Prevention Month, Lung Cancer Action Week, National Public Works Week, and National Hospital Week, reflecting a broad commitment to public health and safety initiatives across California.
