Granite Library announces May activities including parenting classes and health services

The South Salt Lake City Council meeting on May 14, 2025, featured a presentation by Kim Welch from Granite Library, highlighting upcoming programs and community initiatives. Welch expressed regret for missing the previous meeting and shared several exciting events planned for May.

One of the key highlights is a Zoom beanie class for preschoolers scheduled for Friday at 10:30 AM, marking a rare Friday morning programming opportunity for young children. Additionally, the library is collaborating with Salt Lake County Youth Services to offer a class on parenting in the digital age on Wednesday, May 28, from 6 to 8 PM. Following this, a session on teaching consent to teens will take place on Saturday, May 31, from 2 to 4 PM, aimed at parents and caregivers, with a follow-up program for teens planned for July.

Welch also announced a new partnership with Take Care Utah, which will provide assistance at the library for individuals applying for health insurance programs, including CHIP and Medicaid. Furthermore, she reminded attendees that summer reading programs will commence on June 2, with kickoff events at the Taylorsville and Whitmore branches on May 30 from 5 to 7 PM.

These initiatives reflect the library's commitment to community engagement and support for families, emphasizing educational resources and health services. The council meeting underscored the library's role as a vital community hub, fostering learning and well-being among residents.
