Agoura Hills council discusses wildfire safety and road rehabilitation plans

Agoura Hills is taking significant steps to enhance community safety and infrastructure following a recent Special City Council Meeting focused on goal setting. The meeting, held on May 14, 2025, highlighted critical discussions surrounding wildfire mitigation and road safety improvements.

One of the standout contributions came from Peter Feller, president of the Agoura Hills Fire Safe Council. He reported impressive progress in wildfire safety initiatives, noting that 64% of Agoura Hills residences are now part of recognized Firewise communities. Feller emphasized the need for continued support from the city council to expand home assessments and educational campaigns aimed at reducing wildfire risks. He urged council members to prioritize budget allocations for these essential safety measures, stating, “Your budget allocations will save lives and property.”

Public safety was further underscored by residents advocating for the rehabilitation of Chesbrough Road. Carolyn Tricino, representing the Old Agora Homeowners Board, detailed the road's deteriorating condition, which poses safety risks, especially during emergencies like the recent Kenneth Fire. She called for immediate repairs to ensure safe passage for both residents and their farm animals during evacuations.

Serena Nuzzi echoed these concerns, urging the council to prioritize interim repairs to the road and to support the ongoing implementation of the trails master plan. She highlighted the importance of maintaining access to public easements and ensuring safety for all users, particularly during emergencies.
