Bay County officials have taken decisive action regarding a hazardous mobile home located at 6309 Commander Lane in Youngstown. During a Code Magistrate Hearing on May 14, 2025, the magistrate ruled that the unsafe structure must be demolished due to safety violations outlined in local regulations.
The hearing featured testimony from Mr. Melvin, the property owner, who expressed concerns about the mobile home’s condition, particularly with the impending storm season. He highlighted the risks posed by the deteriorating structure, which could potentially damage neighboring properties and disrupt essential utilities, including his water and power supply.
The magistrate confirmed that the mobile home is unfit for habitation and ordered the responsible parties to apply for a demolition permit within 30 days. Mr. Melvin, who inherited the property after the passing of his sister, faced challenges in addressing the situation due to legal complexities surrounding ownership and title. Despite these hurdles, he has been proactive in seeking a resolution.
The ruling also noted that the husband of the deceased owner had been notified of the proceedings but failed to appear. The magistrate emphasized that Mr. Melvin would not incur fines for non-compliance, recognizing the unique circumstances surrounding the property’s ownership.
A follow-up compliance hearing is scheduled for June 18, 2025, to assess progress on the demolition. This decision marks a significant step toward ensuring community safety and addressing the issues posed by abandoned and unsafe structures in Bay County.
