Nampa's City Council has taken a significant step towards enhancing animal welfare in the community by approving a conditional use permit for Pet Haven Inc. to establish a new animal shelter at 3202 Twelfth Avenue Road. This decision, made during the Planning and Zoning Meeting on May 13, 2025, aims to address the growing needs of the nonprofit organization, which has been rescuing and rehabilitating cats since 1972.
Pet Haven's current facility, located at 333 West Orchard, has become overcrowded, housing 63 cats and 30 kittens in foster care. The new location will allow for a larger space, accommodating up to 100 cats and providing more free-roaming areas, which will improve the quality of life for the animals. The organization reported that last year alone, they successfully adopted out over 660 cats, demonstrating their vital role in the community.

Staff findings indicated that the new shelter would not adversely affect the surrounding area, which includes a mix of commercial and residential properties. The council emphasized that the facility would be required to adhere to strict building codes and maintain sanitary conditions for the animals.
In addition to providing shelter, Pet Haven is committed to reducing the feral cat population in Nampa through spay and neuter programs. This initiative aligns with the city’s broader goals of promoting animal welfare and responsible pet ownership.
The approval of this permit marks a crucial development for both Pet Haven and the Nampa community, as it not only expands the capacity for animal care but also enhances the city’s commitment to humane treatment of animals. As Pet Haven prepares for the transition to their new facility, the community can look forward to increased support for local animal welfare efforts.
