American University confirms shuttle access for its students amid Wesley campus housing plans

Residents and workers on the Wesley campus may soon gain improved access to public transportation, following discussions at the ZC Public Hearing held by the DC Office of Zoning on May 12, 2025. A key topic was the potential access to the American University (AU) shuttle bus, which connects to the Tenleytown Metro Station.

The proposed housing development on the Wesley campus is expected to primarily serve AU students, faculty, and staff. However, there are questions regarding whether Wesley students and staff will also have access to the AU shuttle service. Currently, AU students and employees have guaranteed access due to their affiliation with the university.

While Wesley representatives acknowledged the longstanding practice of Wesley students using the AU shuttle, they could not confirm formal access at this stage. They indicated that discussions with American University are ongoing, with a willingness from AU to address this and other related issues as the project progresses.
