Community reports record engagement and plans summer kickoff and Bluegrass on Ballard events

Wylie Parks and Recreation is gearing up for an exciting summer, highlighted by a successful social media outreach and a series of community events. During a recent meeting, officials announced that a recent Facebook post reached an impressive 63,284 views, with 90% of the audience being non-followers. This indicates the effectiveness of social media in spreading information about local activities.

The department is set to kick off summer with a major event on Friday, May 30, from 9:00 AM to 11:45 AM. Volunteers are encouraged to arrive by 8:00 AM to assist with setup and ensure smooth operations, as parking fills up quickly. Following this, the Bluegrass on Ballard event will take place the next day, where volunteers will distribute popsicles on the lawn at Brown House from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

In addition to these events, the Parks and Recreation team is excited to report a significant increase in summer camp registrations. This year, 83 camps will be offered over 11 weeks, catering to children and teens aged 3 to 16, running from May 27 through August 6. Registration has already seen a 7% increase in revenue compared to last year, surpassing the previous record set in 2024.

Looking ahead, July will bring National Park and Recreation Month, featuring a variety of family-friendly activities designed to engage the community. With these initiatives, Wylie Parks and Recreation is poised to provide enriching experiences for residents throughout the summer.
