Skunk Works proposes second extension for Northwood brewery project deadline

In a recent meeting held on May 12, 2025, the City of West Palm Beach's Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) discussed the ongoing development of a brewery taproom at 520 Northwood Road, a project that has faced significant delays since its inception in 2019. The CRA is considering a second extension for the project, which is now set to be completed by December 1, 2025.

The property was originally conveyed to Skunk Works, the developer, at no cost under the condition that they would not receive additional incentives from the agency. The initial agreement, passed in January 2020, included a purchase price of $15,000, but complications arose when the developer failed to meet construction deadlines. A previous extension was granted in May 2024, allowing for an additional year to complete the build-out.

Key issues contributing to the delays included changes in the design from a one-story to a three-story concept and complications with the property title during the permitting process. The building permit was finally issued in March 2025, but the project has yet to progress significantly, raising concerns among board members about the developer's commitment and the timeline for completion.

During the meeting, Commissioner Peduzzi expressed frustration over the lengthy timeline, noting that the project has been in development for over six years with minimal progress. However, staff reassured the board that the developer is committed to finishing the project and that construction is expected to be completed by the new deadline.

The CRA staff recommended approval of the resolution for the extension, emphasizing its alignment with the agency's strategic goals to revitalize the Northwood Village area. The board discussed the implications of further extensions, including the potential need to re-bid the property if the project does not meet the new deadline.
