Millersville University celebrated its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 10, 2025, honoring graduates with the conferral of doctoral, master's, and undergraduate degrees. The event, held at 5 p.m., was marked by a heartfelt welcome from Gail Gasbridge, Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, who acknowledged both in-person and virtual attendees.
The ceremony began with the national anthem, performed by Caitlin Myers, a member of the graduating class, accompanied by the Millersville University Wind Ensemble Brass. This was followed by a significant moment of recognition for the land on which the university stands, honoring the native peoples of the Lower Susquehanna River Basin, including the Conestogas, Susquehannock, and Shawnee. This acknowledgment reflects the university's commitment to honoring the history and stewardship of the land.
Gasbridge introduced members of the Council of Trustees and university administration, emphasizing the dedication of those who serve the institution. Among those recognized were Dr. Richard Frerichs, Dr. Victor DeSantis, and Dr. Rachel Finley Bowman, highlighting the collaborative leadership that supports the university's mission.
Dr. Robin Davis, president of the faculty union, addressed the graduates, congratulating them on their achievements and encouraging them as they transition into the next phases of their lives, whether that involves entering the workforce, pursuing further education, or advancing their careers.
This commencement ceremony not only celebrated academic accomplishments but also reinforced the university's values of community and respect for its historical roots, setting a positive tone for the graduates' future endeavors.
