The Delaware Valley School District held its May work session on May 10, 2025, welcoming community members and students to discuss significant achievements and upcoming initiatives. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a roll call of board members, all present.
A highlight of the session was the recognition of students from the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) chapter, who have achieved remarkable success this year. Audrey Dennis, the FBLA advisor, reported that 46 students qualified for the national leadership conference in Anaheim, California. This includes 22 high school students, 15 from Delaware Valley Middle School, and 9 from Diga Dela Middle School. The students shared their individual accomplishments and expressed gratitude for the support they received from the district and their advisors. Notably, the FBLA chapter has been awarded the Outstanding Chapter Award for the fourth consecutive year, showcasing the program's growth and success.
In addition to the FBLA achievements, the meeting featured an introduction by Trish Kahler, the art department chair, who presented Maya, a talented junior recognized for her artistic contributions. Maya won a third-place Congressional Art Award for her painting, which reflects themes of nostalgia and family. She also received a scholarship for a summer program at the Savannah College of Art and Design, highlighting the district's commitment to fostering artistic talent.
The meeting concluded with a brief announcement about the K-12 community art walk, where student artwork will be displayed in local businesses, promoting community engagement and appreciation for the arts.
Following these presentations, the board entered an executive session to discuss contract negotiations, litigation, and student issues, indicating ongoing administrative matters that require confidentiality.
Overall, the meeting underscored the district's dedication to student achievement and community involvement, setting a positive tone for future initiatives and collaborations.
