Oregon's biennial budget for K-12 education is falling short, with a $1.14 billion shortfall impacting the quality of education. Rising costs due to inflation, a decline in student enrollment, and the expiration of federal relief funds are compounding the issue. The district is now over 30 students below enrollment projections, which directly reduces revenue.

To address these challenges, the proposed budget includes a $1.8 million reduction in general fund expenditures. This decision comes after seven years of declining enrollment and is aimed at maintaining district reserves. The district plans to reduce full-time equivalent positions while minimizing the impact on current staff through attrition and unfilled vacancies.
