The recent Board of Education meeting in Bixby highlighted significant advancements in the fine arts department, showcasing the district's commitment to enriching student experiences through creative programs. Mr. Parker, the fine arts coordinator, provided an enthusiastic update on the department's growth and achievements, emphasizing the expansion of offerings for the upcoming school year.

Among the notable developments, the district will introduce new classes in visual arts, including drawing and advanced placement art, as well as additional sections for piano and winter guard programs. This expansion reflects a growing interest in the arts, with 256 students currently enrolled in visual arts classes alone.

Mr. Parker shared impressive statistics from the band program, noting that 60 students made the all-district band, and 21 students achieved all-state recognition—a record for the program. The marching band also celebrated a ninth-place finish at a national contest, marking a significant milestone for Bixby.

The choir program also demonstrated remarkable success, with several students earning spots in prestigious honor choirs and achieving superior ratings at state contests. The introduction of a high school show choir next year is expected to further enhance the program's offerings.

In addition to individual achievements, the meeting celebrated the recent fine arts fair, which attracted around 500 student performers and engaged the community.
