The City of DeBary is gearing up for significant community engagement as it prepares to roll out its new mobility plan. Two community meetings are scheduled for May 14 and May 15, aimed at gathering input from residents and local businesses. The evening meeting on May 14 will start at 6 PM, while the morning session on May 15 is set for 9 AM.
City officials emphasized the importance of these meetings, which will precede the first reading of the mobility plan on June 4, 2025. This plan is crucial as it aligns with House Bill 479, which mandates that developers pay a single transportation impact fee. The responsibility for collecting this fee now falls on local governments, including DeBary, which has not been compliant since October 1, 2024.
The mobility plan will also involve negotiations with Volusia County regarding transportation impact fees, which have not seen significant improvements in DeBary for over a decade. City leaders are working to establish an interlocal agreement by October 1, 2025, to ensure that collected fees are effectively utilized for local road improvements, particularly on Dirksen Drive.
As the city moves forward, officials are encouraging residents to review the mobility plan binder that will be distributed at the meetings. This initiative marks a proactive step towards enhancing transportation infrastructure in DeBary, with the plan expected to take effect 90 days after its advertisement, which is anticipated to occur soon.
