Alameda Park Zoo outlines new projects and upcoming events for community engagement

The City Council of Alamogordo held a vibrant budget hearing on May 5, 2025, highlighting the upcoming 30th anniversary of the local senior center and the bustling activities at the Alameda Park Zoo.

The senior center, a cornerstone of community support, is set to celebrate its milestone with a day of festivities, including meals and tours, from 11 AM to 2 PM. Council members praised the center's adaptability during the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly its innovative drive-through meal service that ensured seniors continued to receive essential nutrition. One council member emphasized the center's efficient operations, noting, "You just never hear about it," while expressing regret for missing the anniversary due to family commitments.

Meanwhile, Kate Rogers, the zoo manager, reported impressive visitor numbers, with over 60,000 guests annually. She detailed upcoming events, including the popular ZuBoo and fall festival, and introduced new animal residents like Charlie the alpaca and Lenny the camel. Rogers also highlighted the zoo's commitment to animal welfare, showcasing successful voluntary medical procedures that reduce stress for the animals.
