During the recent Margate City Commission meeting held on May 8, 2025, the spotlight was on the Margate Fire Department Cadet Program, which celebrated its impressive achievements in a recent competition. Mayor Keith Lorenzo opened the session by honoring the cadets, emphasizing their hard work and dedication.

The cadet program, designed for high school students aspiring to enter the fire service, provides participants with hands-on experience in various firefighting skills. These include ladder raising, hose handling, search and rescue operations, and essential medical training such as CPR. The program runs year-round, with the next session starting in August, inviting interested students to join.

In April, the cadets participated in a competitive event involving 16 cities and nine different challenges. The Margate team excelled, bringing home seven trophies, including first place in several categories such as trauma scenarios, first aid, and the firefighter combat challenge. Their overall performance secured them the top position among all participating cities.

This recognition not only highlights the cadets' achievements but also underscores the importance of community programs that prepare young individuals for careers in public service. The success of the Margate Fire Cadet Program reflects the city's commitment to fostering future leaders in emergency services. As the program continues to grow, it promises to inspire more youth to pursue careers in firefighting and emergency response.
