The Fish Camp Planning Advisory Council meeting on January 25, 2025, focused on the progress of the Firewise program, which aims to enhance community safety against wildfires. Tim Malueur provided an update, stating that the evaluations for the program are nearly complete, with 98% finalized.
Malueur explained that the next step involves submitting an application to the state, which requires detailed data on community preparedness. This data includes statistics on properties with overhanging trees and those that have cleared their lots. The state will use this information to assess what improvements are necessary for the community to achieve Firewise certification.
Once the application is submitted, the council will await feedback from the state, which may include requests for additional information or clarification. Malueur noted that the state will also require documentation of community involvement, such as volunteer hours spent on fire safety initiatives.
In two weeks, Malueur and another council member, Greg, plan to collaborate on completing the application, which they anticipate will be a complex process. The timeline for receiving a response from the state remains uncertain, but the council is committed to moving forward with the application to enhance fire safety in the community.
