Phoenix Council approves traffic regulations for Pointe Tapatio apartment development

Residents of Pointe Tapatio will soon see improvements in traffic management following the Phoenix City Council's unanimous approval of a traffic control measure related to a new apartment development at East Peoria and Cave Creek Road. During the council's formal meeting on May 7, 2025, Councilwoman Deborah Stark highlighted the community's concerns regarding increased traffic flow from the development, which prompted the need for action.

The Pointe Tapatio Community Association, along with other local homeowners associations, expressed their desire to limit westbound traffic on Peoria Avenue and restrict access to the parking structure from the west. In response, the developer agreed to implement a traffic control device at the main entry off Peoria Avenue, which is expected to direct vehicles exiting the complex eastward towards Cave Creek Road.

Councilwoman Stark emphasized the collaborative efforts between the community and the developer, noting that the traffic control device would help mitigate potential disruptions to local neighborhoods. The council's decision, which passed with an 8-0 vote, reflects a commitment to balancing development needs with community concerns.

In addition to the traffic control measures, the council addressed other significant items during the meeting, including a zoning case involving Home Depot at the Northeast Corner of I-17 and Thunderbird Road. Neighbors expressed appreciation for the cooperative approach taken by Home Depot and the city, leading to a resolution that satisfied both parties.

The council also approved a development project at the Northwest corner of 20th Avenue and South Mountain Avenue, where community engagement played a crucial role in shaping the final plan. Councilwoman Hodge Washington praised the collaborative efforts that resulted in a more compatible development for the area.

As the city moves forward with these developments, the emphasis on community input and traffic management will be vital in ensuring that growth aligns with the needs and concerns of Phoenix residents.
