Henry County secures $900K for Atlanta Speedway Airport lighting upgrades

Henry County is set to enhance safety and accessibility at the Atlanta Speedway Airport following the Board of Commissioners' approval of a $900,000 state grant for a new lighting system. During the May 6, 2025 meeting, officials discussed the implementation of a medium intensity approach lighting system, which will significantly improve visibility for pilots during low visibility conditions. The project will be funded through a limited participation contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT), requiring a local match of $300,000 sourced from SPLOST 6 funds.

The new lighting system, which includes steady burning light bars and sequenced flashing lights, is part of a broader capital improvement plan aimed at upgrading the airport's infrastructure. In addition to airport improvements, the meeting also addressed several road projects funded by SPLOST 6.
