Hobbs Elementary honors students Echo Burks and Cameron Tafoya for outstanding achievements

The Laramie County School District 1 Board of Trustees held a work session and meeting on May 5, 2025, where they celebrated the achievements of students and staff from various schools. The meeting began with a Pledge of Allegiance led by second-grade students from Hobbs Elementary School, setting a positive tone for the evening.

One of the highlights was the recognition of two "Students of the Week." Echo Burks, a junior from Triumph High School, was honored for her academic excellence and leadership qualities. She has maintained impressive attendance and has taken several college classes. Echo expressed her gratitude towards her favorite teacher, Sarah Wilson, and shared her future aspirations of starting a business in Colorado.

Cameron Tafoya, a seventh grader at McCormick Junior High School, was also recognized for her outstanding performance, maintaining a perfect GPA and being actively involved in sports. Cameron credited her coach, Philip Bennett, for his support and encouragement, which helped her team achieve second place in their conference.

The meeting also acknowledged the Central High School STEM team, who secured second place at the Wyoming State Science Olympiad. Principal Karen Delbridge and coach Cara Benner highlighted the students' dedication and teamwork throughout the competition.

Additionally, the East High School Future Farmers of America (FFA) team was celebrated for their remarkable achievements at the state convention, where they won nine state championships. Joe Allen, the FFA advisor, praised the students for their hard work and commitment, noting their success in various competitions, including horse judging and agricultural issues.

The evening concluded with a presentation of certificates and gift cards to the recognized students and their teachers, emphasizing the importance of mentorship and support in their educational journeys. The board expressed pride in the accomplishments of the students and the dedication of the staff, reinforcing the district's commitment to fostering excellence in education.
